New Berlin Brewing Company

I created the logo for New Berlin Brewing Company, a new craft brewery based in North Canton, Ohio. New Berlin was the original name for the town prior to WWI, so the brewery is reclaiming the local German heritage by offering carefully crafted beers and modern German fare.

For the logo, I played around with the concept of using a bear, which has been a symbol of Berlin, Germany since 1280. The stern but determined expression reflects the hard work that has gone into this local establishment, while the subtle hops in the beard connects it to the craft brewery.

This logo is used throughout the restaurant (wall mural, coasters, glassware) as well as on merchandise (T-Shirts, beanies, stickers, and more).

Fun fact: what makes this project particularly special is that I've known the owners for over a decade. They were the host parents of my wife when she was a German exchange student, so we were closely involved in the research process for this establishment to ensure German authenticity.
